Mary E. Bartels Jewelry and Metal Arts "I retired in 2005 to Pacific Grove and a whole new life opened up to me and my Husband here on the Monterey Peninsula. I began classes at MPC in Metal Arts and made many new friends. In 2020 I had completed all the classes that were offered in the Metal Arts Program and was able to receive a Certificate of Achievement. The passion for creating in metals has moved me out of the classroom and into my home studio where I now create my pieces. I am surrounded by tall trees and a coastal breeze inspiring me while I work. I enjoy collecting new pieces to be set, and I can’t wait for the next one!" Mosaics "I started creating decorative planters following a trip to Barcelona where I was inspired by Antoni Gaudi’s abstract, wildly colorful mosaics. Before long I expanded my vision to include wall art, trays, lamps, outdoor surfaces — anything I thought needed color. Whatever the materials - ceramic tiles, porcelain, glass, broken dishware, whatever the surface — my work is based on a love of color and the often joyful and surprising ways multiple colors or shades can interact on a single piece." Ceramics "As an ordained minister, now retired, and as an active potter, I experience art making as a spiritual expression. I have been inspired by the vision that artful craft should be touched and used as a part of daily life (Hamada, Leach, MacKenzie, et al). Such art can reflect the textures of nature. It can connect the user to something greater than oneself. Each piece has a story. As do each of us." See more of their work at: pastorpotter.com |

Trudi Burney Ceramics "I'm the impatient potter. I want to master a new technique today, the clay to dry quickly, the glaze to work every time and the kiln to cool so I can open it….now. My impatience stems from the strong desire to create and experience all that I can, quickly. I've tried various mediums but landed firmly on the love of clay because surprise, it has taught me to slow down. In fact you cannot become proficient at it unless you do and I've learned that the hard way, of course I did. I know for sure that I will never learn everything about ceramics in my lifetime, and that's okay with me, in an impatient sort of way. Moving to the coast and immersing myself in the environment has also slowed down my process and influenced my subject matter, another lovely lessen from nature." Fused Glass Sculpture "For over a decade in Italy, Mexico and California, and now solely in California, I have been exploring the wonders of the art of fused glass. In my current sculptures— unique ensembles of colorful fused glass and various metals— I use glass fusion as a painter uses a brush to create textures, impressionistic images, folk motifs, and rhythmic fields and shapes of vibrant color. As Henri Matisse said, I want 'to make my colors sing.' I believe that in our world of chaos and turmoil, there is still a place for an art of beauty that expresses a celebration of life—affirms the possibilities of a continuing harmony, threatened as it is, in living with the natural world." Handmade Jewelry "Loving to express myself through my hands, I realized “Designing Jewelry” would be my career. I began a jewelry repair apprenticeship in Davis, CA. I learned to repair antique as well as modern jewelry. Craving to learn more about the art of jewelry making, I spent three months in Europe observing and examining the many different styles and techniques the Europeans offered. I then finished a 5-year apprentice program with a master jeweler in Carmel CA. I learned the fine art of hand fabrication, stone setting, and design. In 1989 I opened my own business and developed a line of jewelry which can be found in galleries and online stores. " See more of their work at: jewelrybyalexan.com |

Artisan Silver Jewelry "Jewelry is an expression of my creative muse. I work in many design fields but the fabrication of jewelry includes elements of design with forces of fire and metal. This is a dynamic, exciting combination. I want my designs to convey a sense of excitement, plus harmony and style.I explore classic forms inherent in the Golden Section and the Fibonacci sequence (Phi). These classic relationships convey a sense of harmony and balance in designs. Ideally, my designs evoke the philosophy of calm serenity in recognition that our harmony resides within." Larry Probst
Jewelery and Pottery "My first experience with jewelry making was in the early 70's but it wasn't until the mid 90's that it became more than a hobby. I was hired to do production work for a family business in the Caribbean. That experience in all the basics of jewelry making and in taking classes and workshops at the local community college has expanded my techniques and skills. I enjoy working with wax, forging, and the occasional stone setting of unusual things like fossilized sand-dollars, druzy quartz, coral branches and unique hard to find mineral specimens. I also enjoy textured/etched metalwork that has been oxidized for that ethnic look and prefer to make one-of-a-kind unusual pieces. I hope that you will like and enjoy wearing one of my creations for many years to come." See more of their work at: etsy.com/shop/larryjohnprobst |

Fine Art Lampshades "Niece to Big Sur local, London resident Kaffe Fassett, internationally celebrated master knitter, quilter, colorist, fabric designer and author. I have been celebrating his fabrics by creating one of a kind, bespoke, fine art lampshades, sewn by hand. His fabrics are so beautiful and fun to mix and match together. I just know when I start to lay out the fabrics, I have to get to the moment of playing with pattern combinations when I suddenly absolutely love it! I love that my art allows people to obtain a gorgeous Kaffe and Holly designed, functional piece of art for their home!" See more of their work at: HollyRoseStudio.com |
