The East Garrison community is a mixed-use planned community built on the former Fort Ord military base in Monterey County. Affordable-housing apartments, 994 homes, 37 acres of parks and open area have been developed. The plan calls for 340 more homes and a Town Center to be built with commercial space and affordable live/work artist lofts.

Historic buildings will also be restored for adaptive reuse. Arts Habitat and ArtSpace will partner to serve as the operator and owners of the buildings and to realize the vision for an Historic Arts District in East Garrison. Together they presented four focus sessions in the spring of 2023 that included East Garrison residents, artists, and art leaders from around the County to gather input on what kinds of creative spaces are needed in East Garrison and the County. A detailed report, "East Garrison Creative Space Needs Assessment", was created from the input.
