Arts Habitat will present Aditi Foundation Founder and Artistic Director, Alicia Morena, at Arts in Progress (AIP) on Tuesday, June 26, in a presentation and discussion entitled, "Presenting, Preserving and Perpetuating World Dance in the 21st Century".

AIP takes place the fourth Tuesday of each month at Arts Habitat | Studio Seaside, 840 Broadway Avenue, Suite B3, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Studio is located in the Seaside City Center (next to Erik's Deli). The event is free and open to the public and complimentary refreshments are served. The first and last half hours are devoted to socializing and community building; the program runs from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Alicia Morena will speak about the founding of the Aditi Foundation in 1999, its mission, accomplishments, and current programs - illustrated by presentation books, artwork, and student expressions shared with the audience. There will be demonstrations of the dance, guitar, song and poetry interface.

Alicia studied classical dance, international folk dance, and Hawaiian dance from an early age in Honolulu, and Flamenco and Spanish dance in Spain with notable teachers. Her signature programs feature traditional Flamenco choreographies and music that interface with the singing and recitation of Garcia Lorca poetry. Her choreographies are staged with sculpture, paintings, creative costuming, and photographic projections. She has performed, choreographed and taught in the U.S., Mexico, Europe, Japan, and Spain.

Dance productions and dance stories are included in Alicia's repertoire as a dancer, choreographer, author, and illustrator. She is the recipient of grants and endowments from the Arts Council for Monterey County, the David and Lucile Packard Arts Initiative of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, the Monterey Cultural Arts Commission, and the Nancy Buck Ransom Foundation, among others.
