Summary:

Arts in Progress takes place at the Monterey YMCS, 600 Camino El Estero. The events are free and open to the public. Refreshments are served.

The Salinas Valley Digital Art Guild is a group of senior citizens, many of them retired, that formed after State funding was cut for the Salinas Adult School and the computer lab at the school was closed. Although they no longer can paint together, they continue to gather for lunch and to share ideas, digital art and software techniques, and projects.  They say "No Senior left behind!"

At Arts in Progress the guild members will present artwork created using simulation art material computer programs. Instead of painting on canvas with oils, or painting with watercolors on watercolor paper, original artwork is created directly on a computer screen with digital graphic pens and tablets. The finished artwork is prints---digital art is ultimately a printmaking art form. Prints are made with acid-free archival materials such as ultra chrome ink or archival photo prints. They often print on watercolor paper and choose glossy, satin or matte finishes with photo prints.
