Arts Habitat will present Andrea Johnson at Arts in Progress (AIP) on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, for a presentation entitled The Relationship Between Photograph and Painting.

Andrea Johnson graduated from UC at Santa Barbara in 1976 with a degree in painting. Shortly after, she traveled to Japan, where she taught painting and English for five years. After returning to the US she opened an art gallery with her family on Cape Cod. It is there that she met her husband, Chris Winfield, who is also a painter. Counting Chris and Andrea, there are eight artists in her family: Rodney, Chris, David, Robin, and Nancy Winfield and Barbara, Lucinda, and Andrea Johnson.

Andrea lives in the hills off of Corral De Tierra Road, which Steinbeck named the "pastures of heaven". It is this landscape that has been her inspiration for the past ten years. In between painting landscapes, when she needs a break from clouds and grass, she paints a very different subject: intimate views of birds and flowers. Last year she had a solo exhibit of bird and flower paintings at the Carmel Art Association. This July she will have a show of her landscapes and her mother's abstract monoprints at Winfield Gallery, in Carmel.

AIP takes place the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Press Club is located just in front of the Monterey County Weekly office building, at 1123 Fremont Boulevard, at the corner of Williams Avenue and Fremont Blvd. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. for socializing, eating and drinking; the program runs from 7:30 to 8:30; and the last half hour allows time for one on one conversation with the presenters and continued enjoyment of the evening. Food and beverage are available for purchase from the on-site concession, Perfectly Pressed.
