Arts in Progress Overview

Arts in Progress (AIP) is an event series by Arts Habitat. The events take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month at the YMCA, 600 Camino El Estero in Monterey, at Webster Street, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wine and snacks are served and the events are free and open to the public.

The events are a series of gatherings of artists, art lovers and patrons every month which began in February of 2009.  Each month, Monterey artists and arts organizations involved with a specific art form are invited to celebrate that discipline.  Over these past 13 months, a very broad range of art forms have been highlighted.

Arts in Progress events are fun and exciting evenings that encourage participation, appreciation and understanding of each art form.  They also provide a gathering spot for artists and art lovers of all disciplines to develop and renew acquaintances and build collaborations through conversation and networking.

Arts in Progress presentations are limited in time, informal and encourage the involvement of everyone.  Time before and after the presentations are given over to conversation and collaboration among participants and artists.  Arts in Progress is part wine and cheese social gathering, part arts presentation but, mostly, an interactive arts experience.

The 2009 AIP season artist presenters included painter Elizabeth Murray, theatrical troupe ARIEL, SpectorDance, the Gabriel Ensemble Trio, poet Garland Thompson, Jr., sculptor David Wagner, members of the Tale Spinners, singer/songwriter Lee Garland and the Monterey Peninsula College Fine Art Print Makers Club.
