Monterey County Artists Open Studio Tour

                                     Art Where It Starts

"Arts Habitat connects and collaborates with artists and arts organizations in Monterey County to foster a dynamic, growing community, while leading the way to a thriving center for the arts at East Garrison.”

Arts Habitat presents the 28th annual Monterey County Artists Open Studio Tour, an annual, self-guided tour of artist studios and exhibition spaces across the county. This year’s Tour will take place in Peninsula, Coastal and Carmel Valley locations on September 29 and 30; and in Salinas, Salinas Valley, and North and South County locations on October 6 & 7. Some artists will open their studios both weekends, but most artists participate just one weekend. Tour hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Click here for the tour catalog and maps. Free printed catalogs can be found in the Monterey County Weekly on Thursday, September 27 and the Carmel Pine Cone on Friday, September 28. A digital map is available at bit.ly/mcaost2018. There will be a seven week exhibition of artwork by artists participating in the Tour, from September 10 through October 25, at the Walter Lee Avery Gallery, in Seaside City Hall, 440 Harcourt Avenue, Seaside. The public is welcome to view the exhibition Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Most artwork is for sale.

The Tour Kick-Off Gala will be held on Friday, September 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Walter Lee Avery Gallery, in Seaside City Hall. The public is welcome to meet the artists, enjoy music, wine, and appetizers and buy a chance to win raffle prizes. Free and open to the public.

This year, Arts Habitat will present three Arts in Progress events in the run up to Tour weekends, featuring artists and groups that are participating in the Tour. Arts in Progress events are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Arts in Progress is a program designed to encourage participation, appreciation and understanding of different art forms. The events also provide an opportunity for artists and art lovers to develop acquaintances and build collaborations through lively conversation.

The first Arts in Progress is on Tuesday, August 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with artist, Mai Ryuno, founder and director of Play Full Ground. Mai will talk about her vision for bringing community together through creative collaboration between members of the Monterey Peninsula. Play Full Ground is an artist-run business that offers creative services and products, and hosts events and workshops to bring community together, and is located at 550 Lighthouse Ave., Suite E, Monterey, CA 93940.
